San Francisco, Japan Airlines' first international gateway to America began its scheduled operation 60 years ago on February 2nd, 1954. The DC6B aircraft, named "City of Tokyo" took 31 hours to complete its journey, departing from Tokyo, Haneda Airport, stopping at the Wake Islands, Honolulu and on to San Francisco.
This month, San Francisco will commemorate the 60 year Anniversary of the JAL San Francisco – Tokyo flight.
Now operating with Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the latest and most ecologically friendly aircraft, the Haneda to San Francisco non-stop flight takes less than 10 hours. Air travel has improved tremendously over the last 60 years changing our lives, and bringing our friends and families as well as our business partners across the ocean closer together.
Japan Airlines continues to strive to provide our customers with unparalleled services and become the airline of choice between the Americas and Asia. All of us at San Francisco Japan Airlines welcome you and look forward to have you visit our beautiful city.
