Booking Online

Q:Who is eligible to use this online booking service?
A:This service is available to customers who have an e-mail address and a valid credit card with a billing address in the U.S. or Canada. The credit card holder must be a traveler in the itinerary being purchased and the credit card used to purchase the tickets must be presented at check-in. Click here for the Online Booking Terms.
Q:How far in advance do I need to book my flight(s)/purchase my ticket?
A:Online ticket purchases can be made up to 48 hours before departure.
Q:What flights can be booked through www.ar.jal.com?
A: JAL flights and JAL codeshare flights can be booked through www.ar.jal.com.
  • - Please note that only available JAL and/or JAL codeshare flights will be displayed on the "Select Your Flights" screen.
  • - Waitlists are not permitted through www.ar.jal.com.
  • - Itineraries including multiple fares (ex. Economy lowest for departure and Premium Economy for return) can not be booked through www.ar.jal.com.
  • - If you would like to inquire about a flight that is not currently available online, please call 1-800-JAL-FONE (1-800-525-3663).
Q:How many passengers can be booked in one reservation?
A:Reservations can be made for up to nine (9) passengers in one transaction.
To book a reservation for ten (10) or more passengers, please call 1-800-JAL-FONE (1-800-525-3663).
Q:My maiden name in parentheses is on the passport. How should I enter my name in the reservation?
A:If you have a name on the passport in parentheses, please do not use that name. *1
  • *1 However, If you wish to put the name in parentheses into your reservation, please enter it following the last name which does not include parentheses.
    (Example)
    On your passport → Last Name: SMITH (YAMADA)     First Name: JANE
    Entry on web → Last Name: SMITHYAMADA     First Name: JANE
    Please note that if you put a name in parentheses in your reservation, self check-in service at KIOSK can not be used. Please come to our check-in counter at the airport .
Q:Can I purchase a ticket for someone else?
A:Customers may purchase tickets for someone else only when the credit card holder is also a traveler in the itinerary being purchased. The credit card used to purchase the tickets must be presented at check-in. Click here for the Online Booking Terms.
Q:Is it possible to book a reservation online without purchasing the ticket?
A:Reservations made through www.ar.jal.com cannot be held for purchase at a later date. It will be necessary to purchase the ticket upon completion of the online booking process.

Purchasing Your Ticket

Q:Where can I see how much my ticket will cost?
A:The total amount due for each passenger — airfare plus all applicable taxes and surcharges — will be displayed after your flights have been chosen. This total will also be broken down according to passenger type (i.e., adult, child, or infant).
Q:What types of payment are accepted?
A:Only payment by credit card is accepted. A valid Visa, MasterCard, American Express (accepted in U.S. Dollar payment only), Diners Club, or Discover will be accepted. Billing address must be in U.S./Canada. The credit card holder must be a traveler in the itinerary being purchased and the credit card used to purchase the tickets must be presented at check-in. Q:Can I purchase tickets at www.ar.jal.com for flights booked through another online booking service or travel professional?
A:Only tickets booked through www.ar.jal.com can be purchased.
Q:How will I receive my tickets?
A: Please print your e-ticket receipt through JAL's website.
  • - For instructions on retrieving your e-ticket receipt, please click here.
  • - Please retain a printed copy of this e-ticket itinerary/receipt throughout your trip and present it at each airport check-in counter.
  • On average, your ticket will be issued within 24 hours. However, if you are unable to retrieve your e-ticket after 24 hours, please contact our online customer support center.

Cancellations and Refunds

Q:How do I cancel my flight reservations?
A:In order to request cancellation of one's flights (for tickets purchased through www.ar.jal.com), please contact our online customer support center:

Important
Reservations must be cancelled before the departure of the first flight.
Please note that once a ticket has been purchased through www.ar.jal.com, all refunds will be subject to a refund service charge or a cancellation penalty in accordance with the fare rules, whichever is higher. However, cancellation penalties will be waived for online reservations if requested within 24 hours after completing the reservation.
Q:What are Fare Rules?
A:Fare rules refer to the rules that govern date changes, refunds, term of validity restrictions, etc. specific to the type of fare that you purchased.
Q:How can I check my ticket's fare rules?
A:During the online booking process, you can check the rules for your fare before purchasing by clicking the "Fare Rules" link on the review page, the purchase page, or the confirmation page. After completing an online booking, please contact our online customer support center:

Special Requests/Assistance

Q:How can I request a special meal?
A:Japan Airlines offers a variety of meal selections for dietary or religious reasons. Most types of special meals must be requested a minimum of 24 hours prior to scheduled departure, but please note that some types of special meals require additional advanced notice.
Important
Some special meals may not available on JAL codeshare flights operated by other airlines or on certain JAL routes.
To request online: Go to www.ar.jal.com and click on the "View My Reservations", button on the left side of your screen, and input your flight information or JMB number.

Q:How can I request wheelchair assistance online?
A:In order to better serve customers, requests for wheelchair assistance should be placed in advance of one's flights by telephone. For assistance, please contact our online customer support center at 1-877-US-JAL-COM (1-877-875-2526).
Q:Does JAL provide assistance for pregnant passengers?
A:JAL requests that passengers who are pregnant contact our online customer support center at 1-877-US-JAL-COM (1-877-875-2526) for detailed information.
Please note that, under certain circumstances, medical clearance may be required from the passenger's doctor.
Q:Does JAL provide special assistance to passengers who are sight or hearing impaired?
A:Yes. JAL provides special assistance for those who are sight or hearing impaired. Please contact our online customer support center at 1-877-US-JAL-COM (1-877-875-2526) for assistance.
Q:Does JAL provide assistance for passengers with certain medical conditions?
A:JAL requests that passengers with serious medical conditions please contact our online customer support center at 1-877-US-JAL-COM (1-877-875-2526) for detailed information.

Traveling with Children and Infants

For fare purposes, passengers are defined as follows:
Adult
- 12 or more years of age at the time of outbound departure.
Child
- 2-11 years of age at the time of outbound departure.
- Children must occupy their own seat(*).
Infant
- Under the age of 2 at the time of outbound departure.
- Infants must travel in the lap of an accompanying adult, unless a seat is purchased for the infant at child fare.
(*) Except when traveling on the return portion of a ticket issued at the infant fare. In this case, the child must travel on the lap of the accompanying adult.
Q:Can my infant occupy a separate seat?
A:Yes, but in this case you must purchase a child fare for your infant. Reservations for infants occupying seats are not available online. Please call JAL Reservations at 1-800-JAL-FONE (1-800-525-3663) for reservations.
Infants occupying a separate seat must use an approved child safety seat (see below).
Child seat
For safety reasons, Infants under 2 years of age and who occupy a separate seat are required to use a Child Seat. Normally, you are required to bring your own Child Seat. However, you may use JAL's complimentary Child Seat Rental Service in the following two cases:
  • - One adult traveling with two infants
  • - Small children who have difficulty sitting upright due to certain medical conditions
Complimentary Child Seat Rental Service
  • - Advance reservations are necessary for the complimentary Child Seat Rental Service.
    Book early as the number of Child Seats is limited.
  • - Please contact our online customer support center (1-877-US-JAL-COM) at least 96 hours before the scheduled departure time for international flights.

For JAL codeshare flights operated by other airlines:

Q:Can I purchase a ticket for my child/infant online?
A:Yes. You can purchase tickets for your children/infants online as long as they are accompanied by an adult. The credit card holder must be a traveler in the itinerary being purchased.
Q:Can one (1) adult travel with two (2) infants?
A:Yes. However, if one of the infants is traveling in an accompanying adult's lap, the other must occupy a separate seat (child fare will apply).
Infants occupying a separate seat must also use an approved child safety seat (see above).
In this case, the infant occupying a separate seat must purchase a child fare, so please select one (1) adult, one (1) child, and one (1) infant at the initial search screen.
  • - After the ticket purchase, please contact our online customer support center for further arrangements.
Q:Can my child or infant travel alone?
A:To make a reservation for a child 5-11 years of age traveling alone (*), please call JAL Reservations at 1-800-JAL-FONE (1-800-525-3663).
(*) Certain restrictions apply.
  • - Tickets for unaccompanied children cannot be purchased online
  • - Children and Infants under 5 years of age cannot travel alone on JAL Group flights — they must be accompanied by an adult.
Q:What type of assistance is offered for passengers traveling with infants or children? Can I make these arrangements online?
A:JAL offers a variety of services for passengers traveling with infants or children, including baby meals, baby bassinets (*), and child meals.
(*) Certain restrictions apply.
  • - To request child meals for children 2-11 years of age, go to www.ar.jal.com, click on the View My Reservations, and input your flight information or JMB number.
  • - Contact our online customer support center at 1-877-US-JAL-COM (1-877-875-2526) for arrangements not available through View My Reservations.
