Things to see

Yamamiya Sengen-jinja Shrine

Yamamiya Sengen-jinja Shrine
Yamamiya Sengen-jinja Shrine
Precursor shrine of Fujisan Hongu Sengen-jinja Shrine. There is no main shrine building, but a yohaisho (place to pray) overlooking Fujisan instead, from where you can get a far view of Fujisan. The altar is situated in the direction of Fujisan, set in a stone circle made of lava stones of about 30 to 40 cm in size, which is apparently placed that way to calm the eruptions. There are three Hokotate-ishi (halberd-stand rocks) in the path leading to the yohaisho. People in the past rested here, placing sacred hoko (halberds) on a rock when they carried such halberds.
