Hitoana Fuji-ko Iseki

Hitoana Fuji-ko Iseki
Hitoana Fuji-ko Iseki
A lava cave about 83 meters in length. A sacred place where Fuji-ko rituals are practiced. From the 16th to 17th century, practitioners carried out ascetic training by standing on a piece of lumber for 1,000 days inside the cave, where they allegedly experienced revelations of Asama no Okami. About 230 stone monuments built by Fuji-ko practitioners remain nearby. Practitioners established numerous stone monuments to commemorate their number of worship-ascents.
