Redeeming Mileage JAL Group Airlines Domestic Award Tickets

  • * Japan domestic portion of JAL international flights and Japan domestic flight sector operated as JAL international connection flights are not eligible.
  • * Some flights only operate during certain seasons, and not all year round. Operating carrier may change or may be cancelled.

Eligible Classes

 Regular Seat

 Class J

  • *All seats on JAC routes, and RAC routes are "Regular Seats".
  • *Class J Awards are not available on some domestic routes and flights.
  • *First Class award ticket is not available. However you may board on First Class by paying a surcharge if you hold either an Economy Class award ticket or Class J award ticket provided that First Class seats are available at the airport on the day of departure. (Advance reservation for First Class is not permitted if your base ticket is a JMB award ticket. You cannot board on First Class by using your mileage at the airport on the day of departure.)

Required Mileage

Regular Seat
Please refer to the "JAL Group Domestic Award Mileage chart."
  • * When you take flights involving a combination of different zones for round-trip(2 flight sector) award ticket, the required mileage will be half of the required miles of each zone.
  • * Combination of standard mileage and discount mileage is not permitted.
  • * Once Award ticket application for one-way (1 flight sector) only is completed, it cannot be changed to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket at a later transaction. If you wish to change it to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket afterwards, the one-way Award ticket must be refunded upon payment of refund charge, and the new round-trip (2 flight sector) Award ticket must be newly applied.
    In case round-trip (2 flight sectors) ticket is changed to one-way (1 flight sector) award tickets, the difference in the required mileage shall not be returned.
  • * Awards issued for children (between three and eleven years of age) require the same mileage as those issued for adults.
  • * Awards issued for infants (between eight days and two years of age) require the same mileage as those issued for adults.
    To apply for infants' awards, please call the JMB Center/JMB Award Ticket Reservation Desk of your region.
  • * 2 flight sectors of JTA/RAC neighbor island routes may be combined with Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu-Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA with an additional 5,000 miles. However, for 3 or more JTA/RAC neighbor island sectors, an additional miles depending on an area will be deducted for every 2 additional flight sectors.

*When award tickets for Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA and JTA/RAC neighbor island routes are combined, one-way (1 flight sector) mileage will not apply for neither Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) route sector on JAL/JTA nor JTA/RAC neighbor island route sector.
*Application of Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website within the eligible period.


Class J award ticket
2,000miles are required per 1 flight sector per person(4,000 miles for 2 flight sectors) in addition to the mileage required for the Regular Seat award ticket.
Other rules and conditions may apply to Campaigns where Awards can be redeemed for less mileage.

Restricted Travel Dates For Awards

【Standard Mileage】
There are no restricted travel dates during April 2013 and March 2015, and restricted travel dates for April 2015 and after will be advised later.

【Discount Mileage】
FY2014 Period 1 : April 1, 2014 - June 5, 2014[Flight date]

FY2014 Period 2 : November 25, 2014 - February 28, 2015[Flight date]

Discount Mileage After April 1, 2015 is not yet scheduled.

  • * Even for dates outside the Restricted travel dates, the number of seats available for award travel may be limited, or may not be available.
  • * Restricted travel dates are subject to change without prior notice.
  • * Application of Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website within the eligible period.

Conditions for Using Awards

Itineraries
All flights must be confirmed at the time of mileage redemption.
Any 2 flight sectors or 1 flight sector can be included in 1 award.
  • * All award flight sectors must be on direct flight.
  • * Haneda and Narita airports in Tokyo are considered to be the same city, as are Itami and Kansai airports in Osaka.
  • * In the event that 2 flight sectors of JTA/RAC neighbor island routes are combined with Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu-Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA with an additional 5,000 miles, the same flight sector cannot be used when going in the same direction.
  • * When award tickets for Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA and JTA/RAC neighbor island routes are combined, one-way (1 flight sector) mileage will not apply for neither Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu = Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) sector nor JTA/RAC neighbor island route sector.

Validity/Changes to Award Tickets After Mileage Redemption

Validity of Awards
Award tickets once issued are valid only for the flight and date reserved. If an earlier flight on the day of departure is available, you may board the earlier flight provided it is of the same flight sector. Failure to travel will result in the forfeiture of the award ticket, and refund of mileage*1 or change of award may not be available.
The validity of Award tickets are 90 days from the next day of the ticket issuance (date mileage was redeemed), only if the reservation change was made within the date change deadline. The validity of Awards using discount mileage is the earlier of the validity mentioned for Awards tickets or the final date set for the discount period. All travel must be completed within the validity.

*Other rules and conditions may apply to Campaigns where Awards can be redeemed for less mileage.
*1 Mileage refund of unused award tickets is not applicable to this case. Moreover, mileage refund is not available upon the departure of the flight of the first reserved sector.
*Flights may not be operated on some flight sectors due to flight cancellation, days of operation or seasonal operation. Therefore awards cannot be used for these sectors, even if it is valid.

Changes to award tickets upon mileage redemption
Date changes are permitted provided that the flight sector, direction and class remain unchanged. Date change is possible before the deadline listed below through the JAL Group office of your membership reservation or through the JAL website. However, change of traveler's name, flight sector, class of service, type of award, and changes to open itineraries are not permitted.
Please contact the JAL Group office of your membership registration for changes that are not mentioned above.
*Reservation change for Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website.

*When changes are made to Class J award tickets, Class J for the new flight/ date may not be available or scheduled. In such cases, Class Y may have to be taken instead, and mileage for the Class J portion will not be reinstated.
*When you wish to change your regular seat to Class J at the airport on the day of departure, please go through the upgrade procedure at the airport ticketing counter and mention that required mileage for Class J has already been deducted.
*If an earlier flight on the day of departure is available at the airport, you may board the earlier flight provided it is of the same flight sector.
*Upgrade to "Class J" from regular seat on Domestic Award Tickets are available with an additional 2,000 miles for 1 flight sector per person.Please contact the JAL Group Office of your membership registration.
*If Class J /First Class are available at the time of departure, you may travel in Class J /First Class by paying a Class J /First Class surcharge.
*Once Award ticket application for one-way (1 flight sector) only is completed, it cannot be changed to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket at a later transaction. If you wish to change it to a round-trip (2 flight sector) ticket afterwards, the one-way Award ticket must be refunded upon payment of refund charge, and the new round-trip (2 flight sector) Award ticket must be newly applied.

Deadlines for changing reservations
Reservation must be changed at least 4 days before the new departure date of the flight sector or before the original departure date and time of the flight sector (whichever comes first).
However, the journey must be completed within the validity of the award tickets.

  • *1 Application is limited to be made during the opening hours of the JMB desk.
  • *2 In case the departure time of the intended flight is earlier than the opening hour of the JMB desk, application must be completed by the closing hours of the JMB desk the day before.
  • *3 Reservation changes through the JAL website can be made up to 15 minutes prior to your flight departure. If a change is needed within 15 minutes prior to your flight departure, please contact the JAL Group Office of your membership registration.
  • *4 Pacific time for JMB members of American region, UK time for JMB members of EuropeMiddle EastAfrica region, and Hong Kong time for JMB members of AsiaOceania region.
  • * For JTA/RAC Ryukyu island routes added to routes connecting JAL/JTA Hokkaido/Honshu/Shikoku/Kyushu and Okinawa(Naha, Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima) routes on JAL/JTA by means of an addition of 5000 miles, the order of flight sectors cannot be changed.
  • * Failure to travel on the reserved flight and date or an earlier flight on the same day will result in the forfeiture of the award ticket.
    Mileage may not be refunded and the award may not be changed to a different one.
  • * To reinstate mileage after they have been deducted, please see "Mileage Reinstatement Service".
    However, mileage may not be refunded upon departure of the first sector's flight.

How to Request Awards

Deadline for Award Request and Processing
Award booking will be accepted from 9:30 (Japan time) 2 months (the same day of the month) prior to the date of departure until 4 days (excluding the departure date) prior to departure. Award booking through the JAL website is possible until 23:59* p.m. 4 days prior to departure.
However, booking for 2nd sector or more will be accepted by applying to "Return Trip Confirmation Service" more than 2 months prior to departure date if whole itinerary ends within 15 days from the departure date for the first sector. Please click here for details.

1. JAL Homepage ……… Please click on the "Award Ticket Reservation" on the top right-hand corner of the website upon user login. (Some restrictions apply.)

2. JAL Group Office of your membership registration ……… Please provide your JMB membership number when making requests through the telephone.
*Please confirm the telephone number before making requests.
*Application of Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website within the eligible period. Application by telephone is not permitted.
* For Osaka-Matsumoto award travel, please contact the JAL Group Office of your membership region to make a reservation, change your reservation, cancel your reservation, or select your seat.


Notes on Award Request
Please make sure that you have the required number of miles at the time you request an award. You cannot request an award if you do not have the required mileage.
Please be noted that waitlists are not permitted for award reservations of domestic sectors.
Waitlisted reservations for the domestic flights of the international award tickets are not permitted.
Moreover, please be aware that domestic award tickets require confirmed reservation of all requested sectors. The award will not be issued until your reservation has been confirmed. Once the reservation is confirmed, the award application will be completed by deducting the necessary miles from your JMB account and issuing the award.
Application of Awards using discount mileage is possible only through the JAL website within the eligible period.

Notes on Award Requests made through the Internet
For each reservation, reservation of 2 flight sectors (and an additional 2 flight sectors if your itinerary includes Okinawa routes to the neighboring islands), or for oneway travel, reservation of 1 flight sector in one transaction is necessary. Also, after applying for an oneway award ticket, and completing reservation process through the JAL website, addition of a second flight sector at a later transaction is not permitted. Combination of standard mileage and discount mileage is not permitted.
  • * A maximum of 4 passengers may be accepted in one request.(Total number of passengers allowed is 4 including adults and children plus 2 infants accompanied by adults who do not require seats.) However, for situations where fewer than 4 seats are available, reservations may only be eligible until untile all 4 seats are available.
  • * Each adult passenger may bring along an infant under the age of three who does not occupy any seats.

For passengers needing special assistance, please contact the JAL Group office of your membership registration. (There are situations where boarding may not be available for certain flights.)
  • * Wheelchair disabilities
  • * Pregnant women expecting within 28 days
  • * Junior VIP passengers (children under 6 years of age should be accompanied by passenger over 12 years of age.)
  • * Passengers traveling on Japan Air Commuter (JAC) or Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC) with excess and/or bulky baggage

How to check in at the airport

On your flight date, please take proceedings as per the following.


  • ※When the JMB member is traveling and forgets to bring his/her JMB membership card and JALCARD, the award ticket will be void and unusable.
  • ※When a passenger is the family member of a JMB member, the JMB member must advise the passenger "Reservation number" and "Order number" in advance. If the passenger forgets "Reservation number" and "Order number" on the day of departure, he/she will be unable to receive the award tickets.
  • ※If the cancellations cannot be made via the JAL website, please call the JMB Domestic Award Reservation Desk.

  • · Identification of passengers (driver's license/health insurance card etc.) and reserved flight number and reservation number

Mileage Reinstatement Service for Unused Awards


After application for the award has been completed*1 the mileage used for the award can only be reinstated for totally unused award by paying the applicable fee. All reinstated mileage must be returned to the JMB account from which it was redeemed.
